STORIES OUT OF THE WHITE SUITCASE
TOM ROEDER has created a figure of light and slips into the role himself.
TOM ROEDER surrounds that with Nino Rota’s music, the composer known for the soundtracks of Federico Fellini’s films. The figure is timeless, reminds of the Italian circus, appears as a shy charmer, and moves towards ecstasy.
Occasionally he flies in sitting in a coach, approaches by a small boat, comes on horseback, or just walks in – but always with the white suitcase in his hand. Out of that come some sparking flowers first, he gives to the audience. Following he gets more and more pyrotechnical treasures out of his white case. He sparks pinwheels, Bengal lights, cascades … until, finally, he stands in a blazing sea of lights.
